YouTuber Bhuvan Bam issues apology after NCW demands FIR against him for ‘objectifying’ women

new Delhi: YouTuber Bhuvan Bam has issued an apology after a video in which he made derogatory remarks on ‘hill women’ was criticized by netizens.

Bhuvan Bam’s apology comes after the National Commission for Women (NCW) took cognizance of the matter and urged the Delhi Police to register an FIR against him.

Responding to a tweet, the commission wrote, “@NCWIndia has taken cognizance. Chairman @sharmarekha has written to @CPDelhi to register an FIR and take strict action in the matter. NCW denounces YouTube for violating the dignity of women.” Have also written to Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and IT to take appropriate action against the channel.”

Clarifying that he did not intend to hurt any person, the YouTuber took to Twitter on Friday and wrote, “I know a part of my video hurt some people. I’ve edited it to remove that part. Those who know me know that I have the utmost respect for women. I had no intention of hurting anyone. My heartfelt apologies to those whose sentiments have been disregarded.”

It should be noted that the video titled Automatic Car has over 12 million views on YouTube.

Writer Ashish Nautiyal shared an excerpt from the video, in which a character played by Bhuvan is seen asking for an automatic car model for the shoot. When he calls a ‘dealer’ to ask for a model, the conversation uses a double entendre, implying that the ‘dealer’ is someone who smuggles women.

A particular line in the video also features Bhuvan’s character asking his friend “Pahadan chaligi (Will a model of hilly areas do)?”

This particular objection has drawn a lot of criticism with netizens expressing their anger and disappointment over the video.

Writer and screenwriter Advaita Kala wrote on Wednesday, “It’s not humor – it’s vulgar anti-female garbage that depicts women, and especially hill women.”

Notably, Bhuvan rose to fame as a YouTube personality with his famous channel BB Ki Vine. He has appeared in the web series TVF Bachelors, Titu Talks and Dhindora as well as the short film Plus Minus.
