Tech giant Google is reportedly planning to bring Android games to Windows PC next year. According to a report in The Verge, “A Google Play Games app will be available in 2022, created by Google to allow games from Google Play to run windows Laptop, Tablet and PC”.
“Starting 2022, players will be able to experience their favorite Google Play games on more devices: seamlessly switching between a phone, tablet, Chromebook, and soon, Windows PCs,” said Greg Hartrell, Google’s director of games for games Android And as quoted by the website Google Play. “This Google-made product brings the best of Google Play Games to more laptops and desktops, and we are thrilled to expand our platform for players to enjoy their favorite Android games even more,” Hartrell said.
Google spokesman Alex Garcia-Kumert told The Verge that “the company built this app on its own, which means Google hasn’t partnered with Microsoft, BlueStacks, or others here. Will allow to resume games on desktop PC after playing on tablet or chromebook.
For now, Google is teasing the app during tonight’s The Game Awards, with the report promising a release window sometime next year, the report says. It’s not yet clear what technology Google is using to emulate Android apps on Windows, but the games will run locally, rather than streaming from the cloud.
“This will be a native Windows app distributed by Google, supporting Windows 10 and up,” Hartrell said. “It will not include game streaming,” Hartrell said. According to the report, Google’s app will not depend on any specific integration with Windows 11 and the company will also distribute the app itself.
Google’s announcement comes months after Microsoft began testing Android apps windows 11 pc.
