Aaranyak review: Raveena Tandon and Parambrata Chatterjee saddled with a sloppy script in Netflix series

Aranyak

Director: Vinay Vaikuli

Cast: Raveena Tandon, Parambrata Chatterjee, Ashutosh Rana, Zakir Hussain, Meghna Malik

Raveena Tandon and Parambrata Chatterjee lead a big cast in Vinay Vaikul’s film Netflix The series, Aranyak, out today, is set in the small town of Sirona, which is infested with wild animals and wild men. Critics gave only six episodes out of eight, and I found the script way too clumsy and crowded—and can be confusing to a viewer.

Said to be Raveena’s debut television series, she plays the role of Inspector Kasturi Dogra with a husband and two children. When the narrative begins, she is about to go on a long sabbatical, handing over the charge to Angad Malik, played by Parambrata quite uncomfortably. I don’t know why he should look so sad and go episode by episode with only one expression: smiling and stern.

If Sirona comes up with his own story of gruesome murders of girls, Angad has his dark baggage to handle, having lost his baby son during a school concert – a horrific incident that separates him from his wife. Is.

The people of Sirona believe the murders to be the handiwork of a supernatural being, half man and half leopard, a story that Angad refuses to believe. But there are takers like Kasturi’s father-in-law, retired head constable, Mahadev Dogra (played with a touch of excellence by Ashutosh Rana).

Interestingly, no such horrific incident has happened in 19 years, and the latest is when Kasturi is about to step down. She is annoyed and disappointed that when she is ready to leave there must be a big affair. All these years she headed the police station, nothing big had happened, and to Angad’s displeasure, she starts to back down.

And what is the whole matter? A French girl has been murdered and hanged from a tree. His mother is unconscious. Their idyllic vacation in a city nestled in the Himalayan ranges turns dark and monstrous, with the man-leopard being blamed for the murder.

Crowd in canvas are ministers Jagdamba Dhumal (Meghna Malik) and politician Manhas (Zakir Hussain) among several other players, who are keen on securing a Rajya Sabha seat and hoping to include their son-in-law Ravi Parashar (Indranil Sengupta). ruined in an insignificant role) in politics. And then there are the many young boys like Hari, Gagan and Kanti, each weaving their own story in this tangled maze.

Aranyaka, which literally means forest, is also the title of a famous Bengali novel written by Vibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay between 1937 and 1939. It comes after his long and hard research in the remote areas of Bhagalpur and Purnia in which he talks about the relationship between. Urban and jungle lives. In fact, there is a sequence in the Netflix series in which Kasturi stops Mahadev from killing a panther that has wandered into their premises, scaring the life of his daughter Nutan. Beyond that, I don’t think there is any connection between a literary work and a TV series.

Aranyak fits into the thriller genre, but is too complex to make any impression, and both Raveena and Parambrata are disappointing, especially because I know she can be compelling.

Aranyak is fine if you have nothing better to do.
