Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shams Mulani shine as Mumbai beat Oman in the series 1-1

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s scintillating 75 runs coupled with an impressive performance from the bowlers led by skipper Shams Mulani (3/12) laid the groundwork for Mumbai’s 18-run win over Oman in the second T20I in Muscat on Thursday.

Coming to bat, Mumbai slammed Jaiswal’s 59-ball 75 and scored 162 for six before the bowlers dismantled the middle order and restricted the hosts to 144 for nine.

In this way, Mumbai leveled the three-match series 1-1 after losing the opener.

Mumbai lost openers Akash Gomel (0), Sairaj Patil (4) and Hardik Tamor (4) early and were bowled out for 32 for three.

Jaiswal, however, opened the innings with the help of eight fours and two sixes as he took on the opposition bowlers with enthusiasm.

Jaiswal found a capable ally in Armaan Jaffer (20 off 21 balls) as the duo tried to steady the ship with their 40-run fourth-wicket stand.

Jaffer, however, took a comeback catch to spinner Aaqib Ilyas (2/32) as Mumbai fell to 72 for four. After this Mulani (11) became the second victim of Ilyas.

But Jaiswal and Aman Khan (31 not out off 15 balls; 2×4; 2×6) had other plans as they put on 53 runs for the sixth wicket and ensured their bowlers had something to defend.

Sujit Nayak (13 not out) also played his role perfectly.

Chasing 163 runs, Oman openers Jatinder Singh (51 off 25 balls) and Shoaib Khan (12) foiled the Mumbai attack.

Both added 61 runs.

But once the openers were dismissed, Mumbai were making regular in-roads as Oman failed to capitalize on a strong start and were reduced to 120 for four. It soon became 127 for seven.

Mumbai eventually secured an easy victory.

The slow left-arm orthodox bowler Mulani found good support from Nayak (2/10).
