Y-category security for Karnataka High Court judges who gave verdict on Hijab

The Karnataka government has decided to beef up security for judges of the High Court who were part of a special bench adjudicating against a plea to allow Muslim girl students to wear hijab in school and college classes.

The Karnataka government’s decision comes in the wake of death threats to judges from some sections of the neighboring Tamil Nadu state.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday said that the High Court judges who have delivered judgments on the hijab issue will be provided Y-category security.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, Bommai said, “If someone is not happy with the verdict, he has an option to approach the High Courts. We will not tolerate anti-national forces threatening the rule of law in the country.” do.” The security of judges has already been increased but I have directed that they be provided Y-category security.”

Bommai also questioned the silence of the so-called liberals and secularists on the threats being made to the judges. The state police have been directed to take the accused into custody and bring them to Karnataka for further investigation.

Two people have been detained in Tamil Nadu for threatening to kill Karnataka High Court judges who dismissed petitions demanding wearing of hijab in classrooms.

Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Ritu Raj Awasthi, Justice Krishna S. Dixit and Justice Khaji Jayabunnesa Mohiuddin, while dismissing the petitions seeking hijab in classrooms, had noted that wearing hijab is not a mandatory part of Islam.

In Karnataka, Vidhana Soudha Police in Bengaluru has registered an FIR based on a complaint by advocate Sudha Katwa. It has been mentioned in the complaint that there are also death threats, criminal intimidation, use of hate speech and violation of peace and communal harmony in the state.
