Delhi Capitals skipper Meg Lanning still lamented the fact that they came up short in a few faces of the game on the night despite booking their place in the final of the Women’s Premier League.

Delhi Capitals defeated UP Warriors by 5 wickets in the last league stage match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. All-rounder Alice Capsey took 3/26 and scored 34 off 31 balls to help DC finish top of the table and qualify directly for the final.

DC captain Meg Lanning was pleased that she and her team worked together but lamented that they came up short on some of the faces of the game on the night.

“Just wanted the team to win and help the unit. I don’t think we were at our best. We were sloppy on the field. Was a fair wicket,” Meg Lanning said in the post-match presentation.

“We got down to a flyer and when it started turning it helped us. It looked like it came on well with the new ball. He bowled quite a bit of spin towards the back end. We got some depth in the batting . We have a big game to go. Hopefully, we’ll nail that. We’ll have a few days off before the big game,” Lanning said.

DC bowlers, led by Capsy and Radha Yadav (2/28), did well to restrict UPW to 138/6. Meg Lanning then scored a quickfire 39 off 23 balls for DC. Capsy (34 off 31) and Cap (34* off 31) played calculated knocks to help DC chase down the target with 13 balls to spare.

With Delhi securing a direct spot in the final, Mumbai Indians and UP Warriors will now face off in the eliminator for the second last spot.

UPW captain Alyssa Healy said she and her team would look into what went wrong.

“We were also giving players an opportunity to rest. (Shabnim) Credit to Ismail. He took some wickets. Smelled us I couldn’t hit it outside the square. We were looking for totals to bowl. The wicket was turning and gripping. We would have liked to bat at a quicker clip. Hopefully, we will reflect on what went wrong. We will also consider soon. I am excited to be a part of the finals. DY Patil will be careful,” Healy said at the post-match presentation.
