Aakash Chopra claimed that RCB have the ‘best batsman’ in Smriti Mandhana and the ‘best bowler’ in Renuka Thakur in WPL 2023.

Former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has lauded Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) work at the auction table ahead of the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 campaign.

RCB signed India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana for a record Rs 3.4 crore in the WPL 2023 auction, they also roped in the services of India’s best fast bowler Renuka Thakur as well as explosive wicketkeeper-batsman Richa Ghosh.

According to Chopra, RCB signed the best ‘batsman’, best ‘bowler’ and best ‘striker’ in Mandhana, Renuka and Ghosh.

“In terms of bowling, the team has Renuka Singh Thakur, who is a great acquisition for the simple reason that there are not many Indian fast bowlers, and Renuka Singh Thakur is the best fast bowler in the country at the moment,” Chopra told JioCinema’s daily “He is in the team along with the best batsman in the country,” said on the sports show ‘#Akashvani’.

“The player who can play best in T20 format is Richa Ghosh, who she has and in today’s scenario, Richa bats really well in the lower order. So RCB has the best batsman, the best bowler and the best striker in Richa Ghosh with a lot of experience and a superstar.”

After paying huge sums to acquire the services of Mandhana and others, Chopra feels that players playing in the WPL are getting an even better deal than the IPL, considering the fact that the WPL lasts only for 3 weeks. will be played.

“So, what did he do for the women’s team, he got Smriti Mandhana for 3.4 crores; It is a tournament for 3 weeks, and you are getting 3.4 crores for 3 weeks,” the veteran said.

Aakash Chopra further added, “In the men’s tournament they have to play for 8 weeks and in those 8 weeks they get three times the Rs 10 crore. Not a single bowl has been bowled in the WPL, and if we talk about pay parity, women are doing much better than men.”

RCB will begin their WPL 2023 campaign against Delhi Capitals on March 5 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
