World Nature Conservation Day 2021: Take this day as an inspiration to adopt a more natural lifestyle that will also benefit your health

On World Nature Conservation Day it is important to remember that as much as technological progress changes our lives, we will still be a part of nature and depend on it for our survival. This occasion reminds us that conservation of nature is paramount for the health of our planet and the survival of the organisms that live here. With the climate crisis and the imminent threat of global warming, it is becoming clear every day how short-sighted human activities threaten nature and its natural ways.

Take this day as inspiration to adopt a more natural lifestyle that will also benefit your health:

Go hiking and trekking instead of subscribing to a gym that confines you to a concrete building with scare machines. Take a walk in a park, or if you’re lucky, take a walk through the woods or mountains on the weekend.

Include more organic, natural products in your diet. Instead of taking superfoods, or protein powders and other supplements, buy from your local farms and support organic farmers. Find a balance in your diet with larger portions coming from fruits and vegetables and fewer from grains. Include meat and healthy fats as well.

Take up hobbies that reconnect you with nature. Take some time off your smartphone and laptop and indulge in some more mundane hobbies like gardening, or feeding stray dogs. You can also read a book and meditate in the open.

Participate in activities where you interact with members of the local community who share the same love for nature as you. Organize and conduct fun activities that take you back to nature with fellow members. Instead of texting on WhatsApp groups, go out and meet a real group.

Do activities that benefit the natural creatures around you. Keep a bird food stand near your house with some foods for the birds. Plant flowers for the bees and observe their movements. A 2016 study showed that doing such activities significantly increases a person’s happiness.
