World Food Safety Day 2023: World Food Safety Day is observed annually on 7th June across the world to highlight the importance of maintaining food standards.

World Food Safety Day 2023: Food safety can be defined as the methods of ensuring that food is prepared, stored, distributed and consumed in a way that ensures adequate nutrition and good health. Food safety is also concerned with the prevention of foodborne diseases that are contracted due to the presence of certain pathogens and toxins that may pose a threat to health.

The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that about 4,20,000 deaths occur every year due to foodborne diseases. World Food Safety Day is observed annually on 7th June across the world to highlight the importance of maintaining food standards. World Food Safety Day 2023: Theme

The theme of World Food Safety Day this year is “Food Standards Save Lives”. Most people rely on the information on the packaging of consumer goods to know whether their food is safe. These food safety standards guide farmers and food processors. The amount of additives, contaminants, pesticide residues and veterinary drugs that we can safely consume, how we measure, package and transport them is also determined by these standards. Labels on nutrition and allergens also help consumers make an informed decision.

World Food Safety Day 2023: History

The Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), which implements the FAO/WHO food standards programme, supported a proposal to celebrate World Food Safety Day in 2016. A year later, in July, the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) at its 40th session endorsed the idea by adopting a resolution that was endorsed by the WHO.

Finally, on December 20, 2018, the World Food Safety Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution 73/250. In addition, the World Health Assembly passed resolution WHA73.5 to recognize and highlight the importance of World Food Safety Day on August 3, 2020, to create mass awareness around the world about food safety, prevention of foodborne illness Can be done Strengthening global efforts to maintain food security.
