World Digestive Health Day 2022: On 29 May we celebrate World Digestive Health Day (WDHD). Every year, this day focuses on a specific digestive disease or disorder to raise awareness among the general public about its prevention, prevalence, diagnosis, management and treatment.

In addition, the World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO) organizes it in collaboration with the WGO Foundation (WGOF). The theme of WDHD 2022 is “Prevention of Colorectal Cancer: Getting Back on Track”.

Digestive problems are among the most common medical concerns around the world. Almost everyone has experienced digestive problems like upset stomach, gas, heartburn, nausea, constipation or diarrhea at some point in their life.

On this World Digestive Health Day, here are some tips that can help with digestion:

  1. eat home cooked food
One of the enemies of the digestive system is packaged food, processed food or preservatives. This food weakens the digestive system. So eat only fresh, home-cooked food. You can also include curd, buttermilk and kefir in your diet as they contain good bacteria that aid in digestion.
  2. eat a high fiber diet
If you consume enough fiber then it helps to clean your stomach. Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables as they contain a lot of fiber which aids in bowel movements and digestion.
  3. Reset With A Detox
A gentle detox on a regular basis can be a great way to reset your digestive system. Drinking warm water with lemon juice can help with digestion. Similarly, you can also boil some carom seeds in water and drink the extract to aid digestion.
  4. reduce your stress
Prolonged stress and anxiety damage the digestive system. Therefore, adequate sleep is required for better digestion. However, do not lie down or sleep immediately after eating. It is recommended to take a slow walk for about 10 minutes after a meal to aid digestion.
  5. chew your food
Chewing food is very good for digestion. When you eat slowly and thoroughly, these enzymes have enough time to digest the food and send signals to the rest of the intestine to prepare for the food to come.
