World Chocolate Day 2022: World Chocolate Day or International Chocolate Day is celebrated every year on 7 July. This special day allows people from all over the world to indulge in their favorite treat without any guilt.

Chocolate is undoubtedly one of the earliest luxuries of mankind that has managed to maintain its reputation till date. Chocolate is made from the fruit of the cacao tree, which is said to have been first cultivated thousands of years ago.

Cocoa beans initially have a bitter taste. Once released from the tree, they go through a variety of processes including roasting, shell removal, and heating among others, which ultimately result in lip-smacking chocolate.

The first step involves roasting the cocoa bean, which develops the color and flavor we expect from a chocolate bar we eat. This is then grinded which turns the beans into cocoa liquor. The alcohol is then mixed with sugar and cocoa butter to make the final product that is loved by all.

As with other popular foods, chocolate also evolved over time. From milk chocolate, white chocolate to dark chocolate, today we have many varieties, each one of which has a mouth-watering appeal.

  1. The antioxidants present in dark chocolate can help reduce blood pressure and this is good for your heart health.
  2. While some people like white chocolate better than its dark counterpart, it should be noted that white chocolate is not actually chocolate. It does not contain cocoa particles and is just a mixture of sugar, vanilla and cocoa butter.
  3. Chocolate is known as a heavenly fruit and the tree from which it is derived has an interesting name that suggests its reputation even in ancient times. In Greek, the tree is called Theobroma cacao which translates to ‘food for the gods’ in English.
  4. Eating chocolate releases chemicals called endorphins in your body which make you feel happy.
  5. It takes up to 400 cocoa beans to make about 500 grams of chocolate. On average, there are 40 cocoa beans in a cocoa pod.
