World Athletics mentions Neeraj Chopra as a medal prospect at Tokyo Olympics

New Delhi: World Athletics, the platform that overlooks various athletic events across the world, has seen India’s Neeraj Chopra as a medal prospect at the Tokyo Olympics.

Neeraj Chopra represents India in javelin throw and has previously held the world record for Under-20 javelin throw. World Athletics is preparing a list of 100 athletes to be excluded from various sports. He has included Chopra among the top 10 athletes in the long throw.

The list includes Maria Andrejic of Poland, Lauren Bruce of Thailand, Neeraj Chopra of India, Pavel Fajdek of Poland, Anderson Peters of Grenada, Deanna Prince of America, Rosa Rodriguez of Venezuela, Barbora Spotkova of Czech Republic, Johannes Vetter of Germany. . and Rudy Winkler of the United States.

Referring to Neeraj Chopra, World Athletics wrote: “Five years ago Chopra made a breakthrough performance to win the World U20 title, setting a world U20 record of 86.48m at the age of 18. It was too late for the Olympic Games in Rio. But he will now go to Tokyo to make history for his country. Only one athlete – Norman Pritchard – has ever won Olympic athletics medals for India in 1900, and Chopra emulated with an eye on becoming the country’s first gold medalist.

The 2018 Commonwealth and Asian Games champion missed 2019 due to injury but threw 87.86m during one of his events in 2020 and then improved his own Indian record to 88.07m earlier this year. “I look forward to continuing to compete for my country,” he said in 2018, “and make my country proud.”
