The Union Finance Ministry recently appointed Madhabi Puri Buch, the first woman chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). His work has started from 28 February. This appointment of Madhabi is currently for 3 years. Earlier, Madhabi was a Whole Time Member of SEBI from April 2017 to October 2021.

Tough temperament and 30 years of long experience

Madhabi Puri Buch is known for her tough nature. She is known for taking tough decisions. He holds an MBA degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Prior to that, he studied at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. Madhabi has over 30 years of experience in the financial sector and has previously served on various committees of SEBI. She was also on its advisory committee.

The first female chief to reach this height

Madhabi Puri is the first woman officer to reach the top post of butch market regulator SEBI. She is also the first woman to become a Whole Time Director and also the first officer from the private sector to become SEBI Chairperson.

Worked in major financial institutions of Singapore, China

Butch started his career in 1989 with ICICI Bank, the largest private sector bank in the country. Was Executive Director at ICICI Bank from 2007 to 2009. She was MD and CEO of ICICI Securities from February 2009 to May 2011. She moved to Singapore in 2011 and worked there at Greater Pacific Capital LLP. He has also worked at New Development Bank, Shanghai, China. He was responsible for surveillance, Collective Investment Scheme, Economic and Policy Analysis, Investor Assistance and Education and Investment Management in SEBI. After her stint as a whole-time member at SEBI, Butch headed the seven-member expert group.

Revealed two scams during his tenure
During her first stint in SEBI, Madhabi had exposed the scam in the stock market of two big business TV journalists. Prior to this, he also played a special role in the case of Deep Industries Insider Trading.

Husband is also in finance sector
Madhabi Buch’s husband is Dhaval Buch, who has been working in the finance sector for a long time. He is currently serving as a Senior Advisor at Blackstone, a private equity firm.
