With Bengal’s 4 MoS, BJP Shows Why State Matters In 2024 Lok Sabha Plan

The move to induct four new ministers from West Bengal on Wednesday evening was seen as a ‘reward’ for areas where the BJP had gained during the 2021 assembly elections.

Although Babul Supriyo and Debashree Choudhary resigned from their posts as Ministers of State for Environment and Women and Child Development, according to political analysts, Nisith Pramanik, Dr Subhash Sarkar, John Barla and Shantanu Thakur were given a distinct vote bank in mind. keeping is included.

Nishit Pramanik, 35, a resident of Cooch Behar, is the youngest member of Modi’s team. The Rajbanshi leader has been given a minister of state for home and his inclusion in home affairs is indeed politically significant.

Another, John Barla, now a junior minister for minority affairs, is a tribal leader from north Bengal. He has been in the news recently for demanding a separate union territory from North Bengal, alleging lack of development in the region. Barla has been instrumental in winning all the seats of Alipurduar in the 2021 assembly elections, so he has been rewarded which shows that BJP also wants to cash in on his vote bank.

The BJP high command has appointed two ministers from North Bengal to look into the ‘tribal’ vote bank, the tea garden issue and the counting of Rajbongshi votes. Moreover, since the BJP did well in these areas in the state assembly elections, the MPs have been raised to the ministerial level.

In South Bengal too, 38-year-old Shantanu Thakur has been given the State Ministry of Shipping with a focus on the Matua vote. Shantanu helped the BJP a lot in building a strong platform in the Matua-dominated areas of Bengal.

Interestingly, Dr Subhash Sarkar, a doctor by profession with a Sangh background, represents Jungle Mahal, who is now the junior education minister.

Commenting on Modi’s cabinet expansion and reshuffle, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, “The math followed for this reshuffle will not work in Bengal.”

Interestingly, the reset shows that despite Bengal losing the assembly elections, the state holds significance for the BJP which is already gearing up for the 2024 general elections.
