Federer in the third round of Wimbledon for the 18th time

Roger Federer regained his old luster on center court to eclipse Richard Gasquet and become the oldest man to reach the third round at Wimbledon in 46 years. The 39-year-old Swiss took some time to find his time and needed to save three break points in his first service game.

But after being pushed into a tiebreak, the 20-time Grand Slam champion flicked the switch and his game started flowing. The sixth seed easily went through gear after taking the opener and Gasket could not keep up with him as he suffered an 11th consecutive loss against Federer.

The Swiss will next face in-form British 29th seed Cameron Norie, who defeated Australian Alex Bolt.

Kerber beats Sarah in second round

Former Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber needed 3 hours and 19 minutes to beat unseeded Sarah Soribes Tormo 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 in the second round.

The two players clashed in a match that saw 15 breaks of serve, including seven in the final set.

Kerber finished with 47 winners and made as many unforced errors. The German won Wimbledon in 2018 and has three Grand Slam titles in total. Sorribes Tormo has never progressed past the second round in the Major.
