Uttarakhand Health Department sends notice to 13 hospitals for late reporting of COVID deaths

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand health department has given notices to 13 government and private hospitals for late reporting of 218 COVID deaths, many of them till January and February.

The State Control Room for COVID cases said notices were issued to these hospitals on Wednesday on the instructions of Director General of Health, Trupti Bahuguna for late reporting of COVID deaths.

The notice has also been sent to the concerned Chief Medical Officers (CMOs).

The hospitals that have been served notices include Baba Neem Karoli Hospital, Nainital, Base Hospital, Almora, COVID Health Centre, Lamgara, State Allopathic Dispensary Dhaulchina, Base Hospital, Kotdwar (Pauri), DCHC Koteshwar, Rudraprayag, District Hospital Pithoragarh, District Hospital , Bageshwar, Government Doon Medical College Dehradun, Military Hospital, Pithoragarh, Sai Hospital, Nainital, STHG, Haldwani and Vinay Vishal Healthcare, Haridwar, it said.

Maximum 47 backlog deaths have been reported from District Hospital, Pithoragarh, followed by 36 backlog deaths from Base Hospital, Almora and 32 backlog deaths from Base Hospital, Kotdwar.

Base Hospital, Almora on Wednesday also reported the number of COVID deaths that occurred from January 21 to February 21.

When a private hospital in Haridwar reported 65 COVID deaths late by more than a fortnight in May, Health Secretary Amit Negi wrote a strongly worded letter to all hospitals asking them to keep the State Control Room on regular data. Was told to stick to the exercise of submission with. face action.

He had said in the letter that the death summary of COVID patients should be sent daily by the hospitals to the State COVID Control Room otherwise strict action would be taken against the culprits under the Epidemic Act.

However, this practice appears to have continued.

Dehradun-based social worker Anoop Nautiyal said, “I express my deep dismay at the gross negligence being done by our hospitals and authorities. It deserves full and clear condemnation.”

“With the backlog COVID death reported on Wednesday, the total number of such deaths in Uttarakhand in 47 different days has gone up to 1,210,” he said.

Nautiyal said all the 13 districts in the state have reported backlog COVID deaths.

“It is worth noting that out of the 218 backlogs reported on June 30, 88 per cent are from hill districts,” he said, citing data published by his organization called Social Development for Communities Foundation.
