He said the TRS would intensify its protest demanding the Center to purchase paddy from the state.

Reminding that Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy and BJP state president Bandi Sanjay had encouraged farmers to cultivate paddy during Yasangi, Rajeshwar Reddy said the Center is now creating hurdles in procurement. Due to non-procurement of paddy by the central government, he said that the stock of more than 90 lakh tonnes of paddy has accumulated in the mills.

“For almost two months, operations in around 3,300 rice mills have been affected. As a result, laborers are facing inconvenience due to loss of livelihood,” he said.

Though the Telangana government had procured 50 lakh tonnes of paddy at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore, the Center did not release a single penny to the state in this regard.

“Kishan Reddy should dominate his cabinet colleague Piyush Goyal and ensure that the Center
buys paddy from Telangana as promised by the BJP leaders to the farmers,” he said.
