‘Will Give Water Round-The-Clock if…’: Arvind Kejriwal’s Condition for 24-Hour Water Supply in Delhi

New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday urged the Center to provide 1,300 million gallons per day (MGD) water to Delhi, saying it would help ensure round-the-clock water supply to the people in the city. He said after inaugurating an underground water reservoir (UGR) with a capacity of 11 million liters in Patparganj village that the Delhi government is trying to increase the availability of water in the city.

The Chief Minister said, “Delhi used to get 800-850 MGD of water when its population was around 80 lakhs. It is getting the same amount of water now even though the population has tripled to 25 million now.”

“If 1,300 MGD of water is made available to Delhi by the Centre, we will supply round-the-clock water to every household in the city,” he said.

Delhi can be provided water from neighboring Uttar Pradesh and HaryanaKejriwal said, adding that his government would work for it.

He said that apart from water from Yamuna, Ganga and neighboring states, Delhi is also working to increase the availability of water through local sources.

The Chief Minister said that in the last seven years, the availability of water in Delhi has increased from 861 MGD to 990 MGD through water treatment plants, tube wells and rain wells.

He said that the Delhi government has constructed 12 reservoirs and three treatment plants in the last seven years.

Patparganj Village UGRBuilt at a cost of Rs 32 crore, around one lakh residents of Patparganj village, Pandav Nagar, Shashi Garden, Mayur Vihar Samaj and Chilla village will be benefitted.
