‘Will be a little different’: Ajit Agarkar explains Test captaincy ‘won’t be a problem’ for Rohit Sharma

Captaining the team in Test cricket has never been an easy task but Rohit Sharma has accepted the challenge. As India prepare to face Sri Lanka in the 2-match series at home, he will begin his journey as the captain of Team India in the longest format of the game.

Rohit Sharma 35th Indian cricketer who will lead India in the longest format of the game. He was handed the responsibility after Virat Kohli stepped down after India’s 2-1 loss against South Africa in January.

Former India pacer Ajit Agarkar believes a successful tour of England in 2021 will add to Rohit’s confidence. Talking to Star Sports Network, he said, “First of all, it will be a huge honor for him. Yes, he has led India for a few matches in white-ball cricket not only as a full-time captain but also in the past. ,

“The one thing that will do him well is the series he did in England. The batting must have given him a lot of confidence. As a leader, you want to be one of the better players in the team so that you can demand things from other people.”

Rohit has an uphill task of carrying on the legacy of Virat Kohli, who ended up as one of the most successful Test captains in the history of the game. India’s rise as one of the mighty Test nations is a major highlight of the latter’s captaincy stint.

Agarkar said that this would ease the new captain into his role since Rohit started his stint in the house.

“Test cricket will be a little different but at least it is starting in India where the conditions are familiar. It’s a very strong team that India have, I don’t think it will be a problem for them,” Agarkar said.

India and Sri Lanka will face-off in the first Test starting on Friday in Mohali. The second and last match will be played in Bangalore.
