Kolkata: The Bengal government on Friday said it is increasing the widow pension coverage to 21 lakh with effect from April 2022, keeping aside the allocation of Rs 960 crore.
A social security pension of Rs 1,000 per month is provided to 6,80,564 beneficiaries in Bengal Widow Pension Scheme and under this 16,89,657 beneficiaries old age pension scheme,
MOS (Finance) Chandrima Bhattacharya In his budget speech in the state assembly, he said, “Apart from providing old age and disability pension, we are also providing widow pension to over 13 lakh widows with an annual outlay of Rs 1,560 crore. Various outreach initiatives like ‘Duare Sarkar’ Another eight lakh applications have been received for Widow Pension through VIDEO. The total coverage has exceeded 21 lakhs. I propose to provide Rs.960 crores for this purpose in this year’s budget.
