‘Why is this happening?’: Rohit Sharma Can’t fathom the buzz around Virat Kohli’s form

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is weary and bewildered by the constant discussions on Virat Kohli’s long struggle and says that the batsman of his ability needs no assurance and this phase is an integral part of any cricketer’s career.

After missing the first ODI against England due to a setback, Kohli was back in India’s playing XI for the second match on Thursday but was dismissed for 16 off 25, adding further buzz to his slump . The brief stay was solid as it has been on several occasions in the past, but the failure to convert starts into big scores left the top-order batsman in trouble.

,Kyun ho rahi hain, yaar. Matlab mujhe samajh mein nahin aata, bhai, (Why this discussion is happening? I don’t understand it),” Rohit replied to a journalist’s question on Kohli’s conversation about form after India’s 100-run loss in the second ODI.

India The captain reiterated what he had said in his earlier media interactions, saying that Kohli needs only one or two innings to make a comeback.

“He (Kohli) has played so many matches for so many years. He is such a great batsman so he doesn’t need any assurance. I had said this in my last press conference also. Form will never remain the same, it is a part of any cricketer’s career. So a player like him, who has played so many years, scored so many runs and won so many matches, he only needs one or two good innings. This is my thinking and I am sure everyone who follows cricket will think the same.

Rohit said that Kohli is not the only batsman to go through such a phase.

“We have conversations about this topic, but when we talk about such things we should understand and think. We have seen that all players’ performance goes up and down, but the quality of the player is never bad. Which we all should keep in mind. This is very important. Yaar, matlab, bande ne itne run banaya hain (man has scored so many runs), check his average, how many centuries he has scored, the experience he has to do that. There is no player who has done well in every match. There is a slump in every player’s life. It comes in personal life too,” he said.
