WhatsApp is working on a new feature to give group chat admins more control over the controls. As spotted by notable WhatsApp update tracker WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned messaging platform may soon allow the deletion of messages sent by members. Based on screenshots available in the report, users will see the text, “This was deleted by an administrator,” when group administrators delete messages from others. This feature was seen after the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.21.23.1 update.

The publication further notes that there is no exact release date for the feature’s arrival in beta testers. However, this feature will be a major change on the platform after the launch of Transient Messages last year. This also means that WhatsApp group admins can act as moderators apart from having the power to remove members from the group.

Last month, WhatsApp was also seen working on a feature like Discord Community to allow group admins to control the flow of messages. According to the same publication, the company may soon allow users to create sub-groups based on topics or conversations. This will essentially remove the main group chat from Miscellaneous Messages. The publication explained, “Admins can send messages in this group chat and they will be able to group certain groups related to the community: for example, a degree course may be considered a community, and all of its teaching classes are included in it. The groups involved are the community.”

The messaging platform is yet to roll out the feature to Android and iOS beta testers. That being said, a stable rollout of the community could take months. WhatsApp is expected to reveal more details about the two group chat features. Meanwhile, the company introduced a new feature earlier today that allows users to preview their voice messages on WhatsApp before hitting the send button.
