WhatsApp is reportedly working on a feature that will allow users to create communities – Times of India

WhatsApp A new beta update has reportedly started rolling out for Android smartphones bringing the version up to 2.21.25.17. According to a report by WABetaInfo, the update comes with hidden references about a feature that will allow users to build community in future updates. For those who don’t know, the Facebook-owned messaging platform has been working on a community feature for a while now. As per the previous reports, this feature will probably be tied to groups.
As per a previous report by WABetaInfo, this feature will provide more control to group administrators. This feature is expected to provide an option to create groups within a group. The feature will be very similar to the way multiple channels are organized under one umbrella Discord community. The report further revealed that the sub-groups also appear to be end-to-end encrypted.
Now, as per a recent screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, an admin will be able to link certain groups to form a community. As per the image, the app also states that “when you link a group, everyone in it will be added to the community and its announcement group. WhatsApp has not yet provided any official details about the feature but reports suggest that it will take a long time to roll out to the public.
This week, the platform also announced more controls for its disappearing messages feature. Users now have the option to turn on disappearing messages automatically for all of their new face-to-face chats. Once set up, all future messages in these WhatsApp chats will be automatically deleted. In addition, the company has also added two new periods for disappearing messages: 24 hours and 90 days. The company has clarified that this feature is optional and does not change or delete any of your existing chats. The disappearing of messages setting will also not affect messages that users have previously sent or received in chat.
