New Delhi: A federation of Resident Doctors’ Association, which has been holding nationwide protests over the delay in NEET-PG 2021 counseling since November 27, on Thursday said the agitation has been “suspended for a week”.
The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) said in a statement that the decision regarding the issue has been taken in view of the developments in the last few days and the deaths of Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat and others. A helicopter crash on Wednesday.
FORDA has decided to “organize the agitation for a period of one week” after discussions with the state’s RDAs in a virtual meeting held on Thursday.
“We express our gratitude to all the resident doctors in the country who came forward and joined the movement called by FORDA. We are resuming all services with immediate effect. If this issue is addressed by December 16, 2021 If not addressed, we will be forced to call for complete shutdown of all services except in COVID areas in health institutions,” the statement said.
While Forda President Dr Manish claimed that all RDAs are aligned with Forda’s decision, Dr Akash Yadav, Vice President, Resident Doctor’s Association of Delhi government-run Maulana Azad Medical College said, “MAMC RDA has not yet taken any action on this. has not been decided”.

Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital, GB Pant Hospital and Guru Nanak Eye Center are attached to MAMC. The LNJP is the city’s largest facility run by the Delhi government, and has been the main focus of its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement issued late on Tuesday, the MAMC RDA had said, “Even after boycotts by several institutions in Delhi, we continued to run emergency services, but the apathy of the government and the plight of the overburdened residents forced us to call for a complete boycott of all.” Services including OPD, OT, Ward and Emergency services from 09/12/21 (Thursday).”
It had said, “The functioning of ICU and COVID wards shall not be affected to protect the interest of critically ill patients.”
Meanwhile, Dr Anuj Agarwal, general secretary of RDA, Safdarjung Hospital, said on Thursday, “Yes, we support FORDA’s decision to hold protests for a week, to fast-track the process by the Government of India. Hoping for immediate intervention.
However, the stand of the RDAs of other hospitals is yet to be ascertained.
Resident doctors of Centre-run Ram Manohar Lohia, Safdarjung and Lady Hardinge hospitals have been boycotting all routine and emergency services for three consecutive days as part of a nationwide protest.
As part of the agitation, RDA members of Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital took out a protest march on the streets around the hospital premises on Wednesday, demanding expediting the counseling process.
Hundreds of doctors held placards and raised slogans as they marched on the streets near Connaught Place in the heart of the city.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) had earlier sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention to ensure that postgraduate admissions take place on a war footing.
