West Indies vs Bangladesh 2022: West Indies great Michael Holding lauds Kemar Roach’s 250-wicket milestone

West Indies’ great fast bowler, Michael Holding lauded Kemar Roach for reaching the milestone of 250 wickets in Test cricket at Darren Sammy on Monday. Cricket Stadium against Bangladesh

Roach surpassed Holding in the all-time West Indies list, with a magical moment coming in Bangladesh’s second innings when he caught Tamim Iqbal at the hands of Joshua da Silva, who celebrated on the field.

Holding took 249 wickets in 60 Test matches between 1975 and 1987 and is one of the greatest bowlers in the history of the game. He is one of the most respected analysts in sports. In a message to Cricket West Indies (CWI) media, the 68-year-old said, “I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Kemar for achieving 250 points and therefore surpassing his 249 wickets. What is more important and more impressive is this that he’s been playing for so long. Fast bowlers usually don’t extend their careers as long as they have, some do yes, but he’s been going for almost 13 years now and obviously if he wants to So they’ll have a few more years ahead of them,” Holding said.

“… it’s been a great career working hard and especially for someone under six feet tall when he lost his pace, because he was too quick at times at the start, still built up the ability to take wickets And that’s so important. When you’ve lost an asset you have to find other ways to do your job and they’ve done it so well.”

Responding at the end of the third day’s play, Roach said, “Great to hear from a great guy. Mickey (Holding), he has obviously been in touch with me when I was in England. We’ve talked a little and they’ve always tried to assess whenever you can. So it’s good to hear kind words from him, unfortunately he had to pass, but obviously he set the benchmark very high and you know anyone who surpasses him has done a great job for West Indies, so I am very happy. Proud and thank you Mickey for that. His great work for West Indies as well.”

Roach is the leading bowler in the current two-Test series. He was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ in the first Test, which West Indies won by seven wickets in Antigua. He went without a wicket in the first innings of the second Test at St Lucia, but came back in the second innings with three wickets so far.
