West Bengal: Third BJP MLA Biswajit Das joins TMC, says ‘sad, uneasy’

Speaking to News18, Das said that he was “unhappy and uncomfortable” with working in the BJP. “I made a mistake and wanted to come back,” he said.

Das, a two-time TMC MLA, had earlier joined the BJP. He was the MLA from Bongaon (North). He followed Mukul Roy when he joined the BJP, but differences arose between him and the Shantanu Thakur lobby. Apart from this, he also wanted to contest from Bongaon (North) seat, but he was asked to contest from Baghda.

He was unhappy since then, but Roy and Arjun Singh prevented him from returning to the TMC ahead of the assembly elections. However, when Roy returned to TMC after the results, he also wanted to go back.

However, BJP said that it will not have any effect. The number of BJP MLAs in the assembly has come down from 77 to 72 now.

Sources said that more MLAs were queuing to leave the BJP and till now, the MLAs from Dinajpur were also in talks with the TMC.
