Weather Update: There has been a double attack of winter weather in Delhi. After the record-breaking rain in several cities in the month of January, the cold wave continues to grip North India. Meanwhile, the Meteorological department said that the minimum temperature in the northwest and central India may drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius during the next five days.
Due to the fall in temperature, the cold wave in Delhi may increase further. Extreme weather conditions are expected in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), there may also be light to moderate rain and snowfall over the western Himalayas. Light rainfall is likely to occur at a few places over northern parts of Punjab, parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and northeast India.
Further Decline In Temperature
Light to moderate rain has also been predicted in the coastal states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The minimum temperatures in north-west, central and eastern India may also fall further. The minimum temperature in Telangana may also drop by 3 to 4 degrees.
Bright sunshine greeted people in Jammu & Kashmir on Tuesday after the week-long rain and snow as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast dry weather during the next 48 hours.
The 40-day long period of harsh winter cold known as the ‘Chillai Kalan’ started on December 21 and will end on January 31. Srinagar had 1.8, Pahalgam minus 2.8 and Gulmarg minus 9.2 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.
Meanwhile, snowfall continued in Himachal Pradesh. On January 23, Shimla received the third snowfall of the season. Two national highways and 147 roads have been closed due to snowfall.
The Meteorological department has issued an orange alert for heavy rain and snowfall in the hilly areas.
