Kohli said he does not judge himself in terms of the number of trophies in the cabinet, but it is the team culture that is more important to him.

master of batting Virat Kohli Openly spoke on being called a failed captain for not winning any ICC trophy during his tenure as India captain. Kohli has led the Indian team in several ICC tournaments – 2017 Champions Trophy, 2019 ODI World Cup, World Test Championship and 2021 T20 World Cup. he managed to lead India in the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy and the inaugural edition of the WTC but failed to lift the trophy.

The 34-year-old brought about a fitness revolution in Indian cricket as he turned the Asian giants into a force to be reckoned with in Test cricket. He finished as India’s most successful Test captain, leading the team to 40 wins, including remaining at the top of the rankings for 42 months. Kohli has also found success as captain in white-ball cricket when it comes to bilateral series.

Unique: Great opportunity for everyone in the squad to learn work ethic from Mooney and Gardner, says Gujarat Giants’ Sushma Verma

The batting maverick pointed out that despite reaching the finals of two ICC tournaments and the semi-finals of one ICC tournament, much was made of him not winning any ICC trophy as a captain.

“You play to win tournaments, but to be honest a lot was built into it. I captained in Champions Trophy 2017, I captained in 2019 World Cup, I captained in Test Championship 2021, so three ICC tournaments After I already..”

“I mean we lost the last T20 World Cup (2021), we didn’t qualify (for the semi-finals). We reached the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy, the semi-finals of the (2019) World Cup and the final of the (2021) World Test Championship and I was considered a failed captain,” Kohli said in the latest episode of the RCB podcast.

Kohli said he does not judge himself in terms of the number of trophies in the cabinet, but it is the team culture that is more important to him.

“Look, I’ve never judged myself in that way. I will always be proud of what we accomplished as a team and as a cultural change. A tournament is for a certain amount of time, but a culture is for a longer period. For this you need consistency, for this you need more passion than just winning tournaments.

Kohli then mentioned that he was grateful for the many achievements he had achieved as a sportsperson, and insisted on looking at what went right rather than what went wrong in his playing career.

“I have won one World Cup (2011) as a player and one Champions Trophy (2013) as a player. I have been part of the team that has won five Test maces. If you look at it from that point of view, there have been people who have never won the World Cup. I’m forever grateful for what I have.”

The 34-year-old further talked about being a part of the 2011 World Cup winning team and said that when things have to happen, they should happen.

“To be honest, I was lucky enough to be a part of the team (in 2011). And what led to my selection was also surprising. I had very good scores and joined the team. I never expected this to happen. When things are meant to be, they are meant to be. There were people in the team, like Sachin Tendulkar Who was playing his sixth World Cup. And I was able to be part of a team for the first time and be part of a winning team.”

“If I have to look at what went wrong with my career, I look at what went right and I’m grateful for that. I’m not crazy about my trophy cabinet being full. To be, it’s always There’s been a by-product of how you conduct yourself, what kind of discipline you have, and how you’re striving toward excellence on a daily basis, and I think I’m more concerned about that aspect of the game. I’ve been very honest,” he concluded.
