Steve Smith becomes only the second batsman in BBL history to score back-to-back centuries

There is no stopping Steven Smith. The former Australia captain is looking in the T20 form of his life.

Smith, who plays for Sydney Sixers, notched up his second consecutive T20 century during the one-sided Sydney derby in the ongoing BBL on Friday.

And with this, the Sydney Sixers cricketer became the second batsman in the history of the league to score two consecutive centuries.

To bring up the milestone, Smith, facing Usman Qadir, hit a monstrous six over the long-on rope to reach the triple-digit mark against Sydney Thunder at the SCG.

The New South Welshman remained unbeaten after scoring a blistering 125 off 66 balls. His innings included five fours and nine sixes.

Smith’s incredible six became a huge talking point as the cricket fraternity heaped praise on the 33-year-old.

A social media user felt lucky enough to witness Steven Smith’s exploits live. “Glad I’m watching live. Smith you beauty man, some of the shots he is playing are insane,” read the comment.

Another person called Smith a legend. “Hats off to the legend Smith,” read the comment.

Expressing a similar opinion, a person wrote, “This man has taken everyone by surprise. He is already a Test legend and is now ruling the T20 league with back to back hundreds.

Another person demanded that Steven Smith be made the captain of the Australian cricket team once again. “The boy is a legend of the game. Bring him back as captain! Cummins has nothing,” read the comment.

A Twitter user wrote, ‘Great to watch’.

Coming back to the game, Steven Smith’s phenomenal knock propelled the Sydney Sixers to a mammoth score of 187. Sydney Thunder got off to a bright start to the game after Gurinder Sandhu dismissed Josh Philippe in the fourth over of the contest. However, Smith and Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques eventually stitched a solid partnership of 155 which helped their team reach a comfortable position.

Sydney Thunder suffered a major blow during the run chase as they bundled out for a mammoth total of 62. Only two Sydney Thunder batsmen – David Warner and Joel Davis – could manage to reach double figures.

Sydney Sixers spinner Steve O’Keefe took four wickets in the game to guide his side to an emphatic 125-run victory.
