WATCH: Mehdi Hasan is hit on the stomach with ball in bizarre catch-drop against South Africa in second Test

Bangladesh’s Mehdi Hasan was caught in a strange incident during the second Test against South Africa when he forgot to try to take a catch. To make things worse, he was also injured when the ball hit his stomach. The incident happened during South Africa’s second innings when opener Sarel Ervi played a square cut off a short and wide delivery from Abadot Hossain. In the air, the ball went straight to the backward point position where Mehdi was fielding. However, instead of attempting a catch, Mehdi continued to look to his left thinking that the ball was passing him.

The ball, however, hit him directly in the stomach, causing unbearable pain to Mehdi. He fell to the ground and had to be carried on a stretcher. Thankfully, Mehdi returned to the field later.

Dropped for a duck, Ervine scored 41 as South Africa declared their second innings at 176-6. Bangladesh needed 413 runs to win the match in the fourth innings but were dismissed cheaply for 80 runs.

South Africa won the two-match Test series by 332 runs.
