Watch: Flames in tow vehicle near Air India plane at Mumbai airport

New Delhi: A major accident was averted at the Mumbai airport on Monday after a tow tractor, which is used to tow an aircraft, caught fire.

The incident happened at 1 pm when Air India flight AI-647 was about to leave for Jamnagar. There were 85 people on board the plane. Officials said the fire was doused and there was no damage to the aircraft, reported ANI.

A video of the incident, posted by ANI, shows firefighters dousing the fire as smoke emanated from the tow tractor.

‘No harm to anyone’: Mumbai Airport Pro

“The Mumbai-Jamnagar flight was carrying 85 passengers. The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes. No person was injured. All operations are normal,” the Mumbai Airport PRO said in a statement.

However, the cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed.

In a statement, Air India said, “No injuries, no damage to anything else. We are checking with airport ground handlers for more details.”

A level-two fire broke out last week at a godown near Mustafa Bazar in Mumbai’s Byculla neighbourhood. According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, eight fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire.
