Members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union clashed with police on Monday at Jantar Mantar, where wrestlers were protesting against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Videos shared by news agency PTI showed farmers breaking barricades and trying to reach the protest site.

In a statement, the Delhi Police said, “A group of farmers was taken to Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. As the farmers were in a hurry to reach the protest site, they climbed the barricades, which fell down. They later removed the barricades.” Given.”

The police also urged the farmers to remain peaceful and follow the law.

Delhi Police has beefed up security at Jantar Mantar and border areas of the city. Vehicles entering Delhi were being checked and picketing was extended at the Delhi-Ghazipur, Tikri and Singhu borders.

The United Kisan Morcha on Saturday announced a nationwide protest in support of the wrestlers protesting against Brij Bhushan at Jantar Mantar.

The farmers union also demanded the immediate arrest of Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment by some women wrestlers.

On Thursday, a group of farmers coming to Delhi to visit Jantar Mantar was stopped at the Singhu border by the police, officials said that 24 of them have been detained.

Top Indian wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia have been protesting at Jantar Mantar since April 23, demanding the arrest and sacking of Brij Bhushan Sharan in the wake of sexual harassment allegations against him by female wrestlers Are.

On April 28, the Delhi Police had registered two FIRs against Singh on the basis of complaints from seven women wrestlers, including a minor.

The wrestlers have set May 21 as the deadline for the Center to accept their demands.

Meanwhile, WFI chief Singh on Sunday appealed to farmers not to make ‘mistakes’ and wait for the outcome of the probe, amid a United Kisan Morcha backing the wrestlers’ protest against him.
