Farmers Break Through Barricades To Join Protesting Wrestlers, Cops Say They Were In A ‘Hurry’

New Delhi: Delhi Police said that farmers who reached the national capital from different states to show solidarity with the protesting wrestlers at Jantar Mantar on Monday climbed over the ‘barricades’ put up in the area to reach the protest site. The Delhi Police said that the farmers who were taken to Jantar Mantar were in a “hurry” to reach the protest site and hence “climbed over” the barricades.

“A group of farmers was taken to Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. At the entry barricades, they were in a hurry to reach the picket site, in which some of them climbed over the barricades, which fell down and were removed. Jantar -Protesters at Mantar are being facilitated. Entry is being regulated through DFMD to ensure security. Please remain peaceful and follow the law,” Delhi Police said.

World Championship and Commonwealth Games medalist Vinesh Phogat on Sunday said a “huge call” will be made by the protesting wrestlers if Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is not arrested by May 21.

“The decision that has been taken in this fight for justice is that if nothing is done till May 21, if our demand (to arrest Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh) is not accepted during that period, We have to make a big decision.” Vinesh told the media.

Vinesh said that his demand was to arrest Brij Bhushan Singh.
