Waste Pickup Scan Tags By Nov 30 For 3l Houses In City | Gurgaon News – Times of India

Gurgaon: MCG commissioner, Mukesh Kumar Ahuja on Friday set November 30 as the deadline to put radio frequency identification (RFID) tags outside three lakh households in the city.
The garbage collector at the time of waste collection will scan the RFID tag, which will send a record of the date and time to the MCG control room in Sector 39. The tags will also help in checking whether the waste is being collected by MCG’s solid waste management concessionaire Ecogreen or the private vendors of the locality.
For this task, the civic body has appointed a private firm, which will be responsible for setting up command centres as well as maintaining the software and operation even after all the tags have been placed.
The project started in June this year and since then the firm has placed 11,677 RFID tags in the city.
“I have issued an authorisation letter to the firm on Friday so that they can show it to the residents to allow them to install these tags outside their houses. These tags will help us keep a check on whether private vendors are collecting garbage or Ecogreen vehicles are collecting it. The Ecogreen drivers and garbage collectors will then be told to ensure that the waste is collected in segregated form. However, the private vendors cannot be held accountable,” said Naresh Kumar, joint commissioner, MCG.
Apart from monitoring the door-to-door waste collection, the RFID tags will also help MCG to keep a check on the routes covered by the vehicles and address the complaints of the residents if their waste is not collected.
The total cost of the project is Rs 12.59 crore.
According to an analysis of GPS reports of Ecogreen vehicles done by MCG in June, it was found that 30% of the routes the vehicles were supposed to cover were not followed.
Meanwhile, the commissioner also emphasised that the sanitation drive should be done effectively.
Ahuja stated that the horticulture and construction and demolition (C&D) waste should also be lifted during the drive.
“The commissioner also directed that an improved schedule of sweeping machines should be prepared. He asked the senior sanitary inspector, Rishi Malik to be present during the sanitation drive in each ward for better monitoring. The sanitation department was also told to ensure that the community toilets are cleaned twice a day,” SS Rohilla, MCG spokesperson said.
