‘Wake Up Air India’: Celebrity Chef Sanjeev Kapoor Hits Out At Airline For Serving ‘Unsatisfactory’ Meal

Noted celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor recently took to Twitter to target Air India after it was served unsatisfactory food on a Nagpur to Mumbai flight. The chef shared several pictures of the food served in flight and complained about the quality of in-flight food served on Air India domestic flight. The airline, though aiming for a major turnaround under the new ownership of the Tata group, is still facing criticism from customers on a daily basis. The same day Kapoor tweeted about the food, an Indian diplomat complained about poor facilities at Air India’s business class lounge at John F Kennedy Airport in New York.

Sharing pictures of the food in flight, Sanjeev Kapoor wrote, “Wake up @airindiain. Nagpur-Mumbai flight 0740. Chilled Chicken Tikka with Watermelon, Cucumber, Tomato and Sev Sandwich with Mayo Sugar Syrup Sponge with Shredded Cabbage With filling. Sweetened cream and yellow glaze.”

He describes his food as “thanda” and sweets as “sugar syrup”. Coming from a top chef known for his culinary skills, one cannot ignore his comments. “Really! Is this what Indians should eat for breakfast?” he wrote in another tweet.

Recently, an Air India passenger traveling in business class from Mumbai to Chennai shared a video of worms found in his meal during his flight. The passenger was traveling in flight AI671 from Mumbai to Chennai.

Recently, Air India announced a merger with Vistara, another full service carrier from the Tata group, which was launched in a joint venture with Singapore International Airlines. Vistara has carved a niche for itself in the aviation industry with its quality food. Aviation experts expect the new merger to work in favor of Air India in terms of improving in-flight food and services.
