vmc: Top Defaulters In All Tax Heads Come Under Vmc Scanner | Vadodara News – Times of India

Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) that is looking to increase its tax revenue has asked its officials to make a list of the persons or establishments in each ward that owe VMC the highest amounts.
Cash-strapped VMC is looking at various means to increase its revenue. The civic body has so far collected Rs 440 crore from various taxes including property tax, professional tax and vehicle tax.
The civic body is expected to collect around Rs 486 crore against a previous target of Rs 483.6crore. It has already collected around Rs 440crore so far.
In a recent meeting to take an overview of the revenue collection, it was decided to identify 20 civic tax defaulters in each ward and ensure collection from them.
This way a list of over 240 defaulters in 12 wards will be prepared.
A VMC official said that some persons were not paying taxes due to disputes. “The exercise will ensure that the reason for such disputes are identified and they are resolved,” the official said.
Sources said that a major chunk of pending revenue was from government establishments.
The VMC can only send reminders to them. In the past attempts to recover these taxes have led to bitter situations. At times, some government departments remind VMC of the expenses involved in various services provided by them to VMC whenever asked to pay tax.
