Virat Kohli’s Form A Concern, Says Ajit Agarkar As India Gear Up For West Indies ODI Series

Former India all-rounder Ajit Agarkar said that Virat Kohli will have to quickly find his form with the bat where he is not at his best.

Former India captain Kohli has been going through poor form since 2019. He hasn’t scored a century in international cricket since the pink ball Test against Bangladesh. Talking about ODIs, Kohli has scored six fifties in his last eight innings.

“At the end of the day you are only as successful as your team and if you don’t win, no matter how great you are on the field, playing in a team is not pleasant.

“We first talk about different combinations – Virat Kohli will be a key factor because of the kind of player he is, but at the moment he is not at his best, which is a fact and the sooner he figures out his form. Well, that’s going to make it so much easier for Rohit Sharma to manage that thing because that’s what he (Virat) can do on his own.

“Virat Kohli’s form is a matter of concern, but we all know what kind of player he is. So, hopefully he finds his form as soon as possible,” said Agarkar on the game plan show on Star Sports.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra feels that Kohli has not been in a position to impose himself lately. “From a personal and personal point of view, you want to convert those 50 into 100 because you have to save something for the rainy days as well. He is not going through poor form in terms of runs, but when you see him batting, you don’t see the same Virat Kohli.

“He’s not imposing, he’s not dominating, he’s still scratching around, he’s scoring those runs and that’s what all great players do – we’ve seen Sachin, Rahul – we’ve got them scoring runs. But he (Virat Kohli) is not an accumulator, he is a promoter… but he is not there yet.”

Chopra feels that now with Rohit Sharma taking over as the white-ball captain, Kohli may have to adapt his game as per the new captain’s philosophy. “But one thing I really want to see is that now Rohit Sharma will have his stamp of authority and the brand of cricket that he wants to play. Virat Kohli has to be part of the same philosophy. And once you have a different philosophy, sometimes it liberates you, because you’re not really thinking about, ‘Okay, I need to score or do I need to do that. the wanted. This is what we all have to do together.

“And that’s what I’m waiting to see, does it free and free Virat Kohli, whether you get out for 50 but score 50 off 55 balls, score a century as a captain, play Don’t worry about finishing. , you’re done doing it all. It’s not just your job anymore, your job description has changed a bit.”

India’s white-ball series against West Indies will begin with a three-match ODI series from February 6 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This will be followed by a three-match T20I series from February 16 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
