Berhampur: Several activists and educationists of Ganjam district have appealed to rural voters and candidates to abstain from violence and elect representatives without prejudice to strengthen the democracy at the grassroots level during the three-tier panchayat elections.
The appeal is significant as pre-poll violence was reported from various places in the district, including Dharakote, Digapahandi, Patrapur and Chikti. The police have arrested at least 20 people for their alleged involvement in the violence.
