farmers: Farmers’ Cry For Msp For All Paddy | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Berhampur: Several farmers in Beguniapada block of Ganjam district staged road blockade for the second day on Tuesday, demanding that their paddy be procured at minimum support price (MSP) irrespective of the quality.
Farmers with paddy bags staged a road blockade at Sumandal main road. The officials along with the police visited the spot and tried to placate the agitating farmers, chief district supply officer (CDSO), Ganjam Pusha Mundasaid.
The agitators alleged that millers want to procure 80kg of paddy, instead of 75kg at the MSP of Rs 1940 per quintal, citing inferior quality of paddy. “We want the quality norms to be relaxed this time as the farmers in the district suffered greatly due to unseasonal rains. The paddy has become discolored due to water logging followed by the rains,” said Desabandhu Jena of Burujhari village.
“We have suffered much due to unseasonal rains. We have not got any compensation for our losses. At least the government should procure the entire paddy irrespective of the quality,” he added.
