The Tamil film series Aramanai has seen three installments so far. The horror comedy films directed by Sundar C have been huge hits and have been praised for the perfect blend of horror elements with humour. Now, it looks like the fourth installment is in the pipeline. And wait until you hear who has joined the cast. It is none other than Makkan Selvan Vijay Sethupathi himself. Vijay Sethupathi and Santhanam will officially helm the fourth installment, titled Aranmanai 4.
Vijay Sethupathi has experience in both horror and comedy horror genre. He starred in the horrifying horror film Pizza and also starred in the comedy horror Annabelle Sethupathi alongside Taapsee Pannu. However, this is the first time Vijay Sethupathi will be seen in the Aranmanai franchise.
Santhanam appeared in earlier films and was a major component of comic relief. Lyca Productions is credited with bankrolling Aranamanai 4. Hansika, Vinay Rai and Andrea Jeremiah played lead roles in the first film, which was released in 2014 and featured a large ensemble of supporting actors. Trisha, Hansika, and Siddharth appeared in lead roles in the second film, Aranmanai 2 in 2016 and Arya, Raashi Khanna and Andrea played lead roles in the third film, Aranmanai 3.
Director Sundar C plays a pivotal role in each of the three films. All the films were commercially successful and contributed to the emergence of the horror comedy sub-genre in Tamil cinema. Although the stories are not always related to each other, they usually center on an aranamanai (palace) that is inhabited by paranormal spirits.
