Veteran actress Chitra passes away, Prithviraj Sukumaran mourns

New Delhi: Veteran Indian film actress Chitra, known for her work in Malayalam cinema, breathed her last today (August 21, 2021). Nicknamed ‘Nallanai Chitra’, the 56-year-old actress passed away after reportedly suffering from a cardiac arrest.

According to an IANS report, Chitra suffered a heart attack in Saligramam, Chennai. Popular Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran shared the news on his Twitter and condoled the demise of such a fine artist.

‘Lucifer’ director Prithviraj Sukumaran shared a picture of veteran actress Chitra and tweeted, “Rest in peace.”

Chitra has acted in more than 100 films in her career. He worked with Kamal Haasan in K. Balachander made his acting debut with the Tamil film Apoorva Raagangal. She then made her debut as an adult in 1983 in the Malayalam film ‘Attakalasam’ alongside actors Mohanlal and Prem Nazir.

The actress was nicknamed ‘Nallanai Chitra’ as she became popular and rose to fame with an advertisement for an oil company, in which she starred.

Chitra married Vijayaraghavan in 1990 and the couple together have a daughter named Mahalakshmi, who was born in the year 1992. Although she took a break from films after her marriage, she has acted in several serials including Manasi (Malayalam), Kailavu ​​Manasu. Tamil), Asaigal, Udyogasthana, Sariyum Illai Thappum Illai, Nagamma (Telugu) and others. He has also acted in Kannada films like ‘Sundara Swapnagalu’, ‘Krishna Mechida Radhe’ and others.

The veteran actress’ came as a shock to the Malayalam film industry. She is survived by her husband Vijayaraghavan and daughter Mahalakshmi.
