Ved Box Office Collection Day 8: Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza’s Marathi film has emerged as a hit for the audience. It is also the directorial debut of the actor. Ved is a remake of the Telugu film Majili. After registering a decent opening of Rs 2.25 cr, the growth on the subsequent consecutive days (Saturday – 3.25 cr, Sunday – 4.50 cr) was remarkable. According to trade reports, Ved has collected more than Rs 20 crore in its first week of release. During the week, Genelia and Riteish’s film saw a slight drop but still managed to garner its fair share of the audience.

Ved is doing record business for a Marathi film. The first week numbers of the film are over Rs 20.67 crore and it is very good. As per trade reports, Ved earned Rs 2.70 crore on Day 8. After this the total collection has gone up to Rs 23.37 crore. This is a very promising return for both of them after Mr. Mummy which theatrically turned out to be a huge disaster.

The film is also Genelia’s first Marathi film. In December last year, Genelia had revealed that she is making her Marathi debut with Ved. Sharing a video, the actress wrote, ‘Fortunate to be a part of films in so many languages and to get love and respect from all. Being born in Maharashtra, my heart was longing and hoping to do a film in Marathi for years. There would be a script where I could say that’s all. And, then it happened – my first Marathi film, I am coming back to acting after 10 years and being a part of a dream where my husband Riteish Deshmukh is directing for the first time and I have got a beautiful co-actor Jia Shankar Which is produced under our production house MFC (sic).” Majili, on which Ved is based, stars former couple Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
