Thunivu’s opening has been bigger than Vaarisu’s. The early figures of the film suggested that it would surpass Varisu by a huge margin. However, in a surprising move, Vijay’s film picked up momentum in the first week itself, leaving Ajith’s film far behind. On the 16th day of its release, Ajith’s film reportedly earned Rs 0.80–0.90 crore, taking the total collection of the film to over Rs 111.80 crore. Thunivu had an overall Tamil occupancy of 22.66%. Meanwhile, ‘Thunivu’ has become Ajith’s highest grosser after ‘Valimai’.

In the action packed film Thunivu, Ajith’s look as the ‘Boss Man’ steals the show. He has taken people hostage in a bank. Police is seen trying to identify him. But it is a mystery that slowly opens up. The action-packed film features Ajith sporting a white beard and white hair. Ajith Kumar plays a slightly negative character in the action thriller, and he impressed the fans with it.
