Padma Bhushan awardee singer Vani Jayaram was found dead at her Chennai residence on January 25 for her contribution in the field of arts. Thousand Lights police officials confirmed Jayaram’s death. More details on the matter are awaited. Jayaram broke onto the music scene with the song Bole Re Papihara, Jaya Bachchan’s debut as a leading lady in the 1971 film Guddi. He has done playback for over a thousand Indian films.
She has recorded over 10,000 songs in languages such as Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi and Bengali. For 2023, the President has approved the conferment of 106 Padma Awards, and Jairam was one of the recipients. The Padma Awards are presented by the President at formal functions usually held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan around March or April every year. Unfortunately, Jayaram has passed away before he could receive the honour.
