Vadodara bootlegger shifts base to Goa for ‘ease of doing business’ Surat News – Times of India

Surat: Don’t be fooled by the dry surface, dig a little deeper and the state is getting drenched in illegal Liquor which finds it secretly in the land through various inlets.
And how profitable is bootlegging in business Gujarat This has only been proved once again by this clever Vadodara supplier, who quietly shifted base to Goa for ‘ease of doing business’ under the guise of chemical trade.
Police on Tuesday, investigating the recovery of liquor worth Rs 27 lakh in Mahidhapura, found that the consignment of liquor was sent by Shankar More (40) to his associate Jignesh alias Lalo Dabhelia in the city by hiding it in a chemical container. Dabhelia has also started the business of chemical to hide his illegal liquor business.
According to the police, Mr. His name is linked in several criminal cases in Vadodara, a few months back he shifted to Surat and then to Goa, where he registered himself as a chemical trader. He also took a GST number and started supplying liquor by hiding it in a container filled with chemicals.
This is the first case registered here after More’s arrival in Goa. The police had no idea that he had left for Goa until his associates gave the details,” said an officer of Mahidharpura police station.
More decided to go to Goa’s Lock Stock and Barrels after the police found that he was facing trouble in supplying liquor from Daman as well. “This is the first such case in which a bootlegger shifted his hideout to Goa after several cases in Gujarat. Police inspector RK Dhulia said he also modified the entire business model to avoid getting caught.
On Tuesday, on the basis of specific information, the police investigated the chemical consignment brought in a truck. While the plastic containers marked as aloe vera gel were only half filled with the gel, the remaining half were filled in Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) bottles.
The police have arrested Dabhelia and Sanjay Sadanand Karnik for their alleged involvement in illegal trade.
Both also gave information about a godown on Vasta Devdi Road, from where a huge stock of liquor was found. The police recovered a total of 6,351 IMFL bottles and 624 beer cans, worth a total of Rs 27 lakh, from the godown. The godown was hired by Dabhelia to store the chemicals, as he too had registered his chemical trading firm here. Dabhelia and More met each other as dice prisoners in Rajkot jail.
Most of the confiscated liquor is a high quality product which is sold in Goa at a much higher price than its actual rate. But due to demand here tippers buy it at any cost. “The liquor was hidden in plastic containers under thermocol sheets, on top of which the gel was filled. It was covered with a cap and then sealed with a metal lid,” said a police officer from Mahidharpura police station.
