Uttarakhand: 15 dead, including a policeman, in transformer explosion near Alaknanda River in Chamoli

In a tragic incident, at least ten people were killed and several others injured due to an explosion in a transformer in Chamoli district on Wednesday. According to the police, the accident happened on the banks of the Alaknanda river. Talking to the media, Chamoli SP Parmendra Doval confirmed the incident and said that the injured are being treated at the district hospital.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand’s Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar said that a post in-charge of Pipalkoti was also among those who lost their lives. This accident happened due to current flow in the sewer treatment plant of Namami Gange Project built on the banks of Alaknanda river. Earlier there was news that at least 20 people were injured in this incident.

Uttarakhand ADG (law and order) V Murugesan said 15 people, including a sub-inspector and three home-guards, were electrocuted. He further said that the investigation of the incident is underway.
