Lucknow: Eyes on Samajwadi Party candidate Yogesh Verma EVM before the day of counting, was defeated by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate.
In the wake of exit polls and allegations of EVM tampering at some places, Verma was roaming around in an open gypsy and using binoculars to keep an eye on the strong room from afar.
Verma had contested from Hastinapur constituency in western Uttar Pradesh Meerut District,
He was defeated by BJP’s Dinesh Khatik, the sitting MLA, by a margin of 7,312 votes, PTI reported.

Verma got 1 lakh (43.55 per cent) of the total votes, while Khatik got 1.07 lakh (46.72 per cent) votes, according to Election Commission data.
Another popular contestant from the Hastinapur seat was Congress’ Archana Gautam, a model-actor-turned-politician who appeared nowhere in the electoral battle for this seat.
Archana got 1,519 (0.66 per cent) votes, while Sanjeev Kumar of BSP got 14,240 votes, finishing third among the total eight candidates in the seat.
