With KKR taking the win, they now sit comfortably at second in the points table while MI just about sit at ninth above Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The Kolkata Knight Riders were able to bounce back with a win over Mumbai Indians, breaking the 12-year-long curse at the Wankhdede Stadium with an emphatic win by 24 runs.

With the bat, Venkatesh Iyer pulled off a heroic innings, saving KKR from adversity as they were five batters down within the first seven overs. He was supported by the impact substitute, Manish Pandey and the two rebuilt the innings to set a target of 170 runs.

In the second innings, Mitchell Starc showed his class and experience at the highest level and finished as the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/33 in 3.5 overs. With the match going down to the penultimate over, the Australian quick took three wickets in his final over to finish off the game.

This win is a crucial one for the two-time title-winners as they continue to sit second in the points table with a gap of two points and a significantly better net run rate to keep them comfortable as the second-best side in the league stages.

Mumbai Indians on the other hand could be languishing down at the bottom of the table but their superior net run-rate keeps them just below rock-bottom with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru yet to play their 11th game. If the latter gets the win, it means that MI would be at the bottom of the table which is a new low for the five-time champions.

With that loss, Mumbai Indians’ season is all but over. They now have practically no chance of making it to the playoffs with only three more fixtures remaining in the season. However, they will look to see through the season on a high and potentially finish off on a positive note.
