Uttar Pradesh: 62,423 hectares of land freed from mafia in 4 years, 484 occupied Allahabad News – Times of India

Lucknow: In the state-wide campaign against land mafia in the last four years, 484 people were arrested and sent to jail. Two of the arrested accused were charged with the National Security Act (NSA), while 170 also faced proceedings under the Gangsters Act.
The government has also invoked the Goondas Act on 399 others who had forcibly occupied properties. A senior official of the Home Department said that 62,423 hectares of land has been freed in the state in the last four years.
The official also said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had resolved to take strict action against the land mafia after assuming power in 2017.
The official also said that a four-tier anti-land mafia task force was formed on the instructions of the CM, which simultaneously launched a campaign to identify the land mafia and initiate action against them.
“The government has also started a portal where any person can lodge a complaint at http://jansunwai.up.nic.in/ for fearlessly registering complaints against the land mafia,” the official said.
ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar said that in the last four years, the police have registered 3,313 FIRs against 1,290 land mafia.
