At least 20 people were shot, including one death, in a mall parking lot in Willowbrook, near Chicago, early Sunday morning, officials said. Local media reports indicate that shots were fired into a crowd of around 200 or 300 people and at around 12:30 on Sunday.

“At least 20 people were shot. One victim has died,” said Deputy Chief Eric Swanson of the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office. “The motive behind this incident is not clear. … We transported several victims from the scene. Others just went to area hospitals. ,
Swanson told reporters the condition of the injured was not immediately known. “It was supposed to be like a Juneteenth celebration. We just started hearing gunshots, so we got down until they stopped,” eyewitness Marchecia Avery told WLS-TV. Craig Lhotsi, another eyewitness, said: “Everybody ran, and it was chaos.”
